Greene Township Man Shot by Police Identified
Pennsylvania State Police on Wednesday identified the man in Tuesday’s fatal police-involved shooting in Greene Township, Pike County as John Merop, 23, who lived on Roemerville Road.
Police said they are continuing to investigate the incident, in which there were reports of multiple gunshots.
Troopers from Blooming Grove barracks arrived early Tuesday afternoon after they were asked by the Pike County Mental Health/Mental Development to visit the residence. Reports of shots fired occurred just after 12:30 pm, according to dispatch information. Police remained at the scene as part of the investigation till 5 pm.
The investigation is currently being conducted in coordination with the Pike County District Attorney's Office and the Pennsylvania State Police, according to a news release from State Police on Wednesday. “Investigators are actively reviewing all available evidence related to the incident, including body-worn camera footage and other investigative materials,” police said.
“At this time, the investigation remains ongoing. Additional details will be released as they become available once they can be confirmed.”
