A structure fire in Berlin Township claimed the life of a 91 year old man Thursday evening, according to the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.

Emergency crews were dispatched to a residence at 56B Bavarian Hill Road at approximately 6:00 pm.

Wayne County Coroner Edward R. Howell and Chief Deputy Coroner Mark M. James responded to the scene to conduct a death investigation. The deceased was discovered in the vicinity of a bedroom inside the home and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:10 pm.

The victim was identified as Edward M. Siro Sr., age 91, of Beach Lake. According to the coroner’s office, he had been recently widowed less than one month ago and lived alone at the residence.

An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted later this week. The cause and manner of death remain pending investigation.
