PALMYRA TWP.: A 28-year-old Newfoundland man was killed Sunday in a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle at the intersection of Route 507 and Route 390 in Pike County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

State police identified the victim as Ryan M. Johnson, 28, of Newfoundland. Troopers said the crash occurred around 9:15 p.m. on May 17 in Palmyra Township.

According to the crash report, a 2017 Nissan Murano was traveling on Route 390 and stopped at the stop sign before attempting to turn left onto Route 507 south. Police said a 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 400 motorcycle traveling south on Route 507 struck the rear portion of the SUV after it entered the roadway.

Johnson, who was operating the motorcycle, sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Police said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

The 17-year-old female driver of the Nissan, from Tafton, was not injured and refused EMS transport, according to the report.

The crash report lists the primary violation for the Nissan driver as “duties at stop sign,” while the motorcycle operator was listed for “driving at safe speed.” Police also stated the investigation determined Johnson had consumed alcohol prior to the crash and that the motorcycle was traveling at a “high rate of speed” before impact.

Troop R CARS and the Forensic Services Unit assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
